Getting Ready for the Season In April we begin the pre-harvest preparation of our old berries. This involves raking the straw that protected the berries over the winter between the rows so the customers have a mud free place to walk and setting up our irrigation pipes for frost protecting the berries on nights when it gets cold. We run the sprinklers and it actually freezes ice on the plants. As the water freezes it gives off heat keeping the blossoms at a constant temperature. If everything goes well, the plants will begin to blossom and form berries. |
